Terms of Service

These Terms of Service govern your use of Slowburn — the mobile app, the web version of the app, and the myslowburn.app website — operated by Velocity Apps. By using Slowburn, you agree to these terms.

Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Slowburn, or by using myslowburn.app, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use Slowburn.

Slowburn is written for adults. You must be at least 17 years old to use it and to make purchases. We ask for your date of birth when you first set the app up — before you reach any story, and whether or not you go on to create an account — and you cannot continue without a date that meets the minimum age.

Description of Service

Slowburn is an interactive fiction app that:

• Presents original romance stories written to be read and responded to
• Generates the next passage of a story from what you write, using AI models
• Keeps your sessions, characters and story history on your account
• Lets you create your own stories and characters
• Sells credits that are spent on story replies

What Slowburn Is Not

Slowburn is fiction. Characters are not real people, are not human, and are not professionals of any kind. Slowburn does not:

• Provide medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice
• Offer counselling, therapy, or crisis support
• Provide companionship from, or communication with, any real person
• Guarantee that generated text will be accurate, consistent, or suitable

Story text is produced by AI models and may be wrong, contradictory, or unlike what you expected. Do not rely on it as fact or as advice. If you are in crisis or experiencing a medical emergency, contact your local emergency services immediately.

License to Use

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Slowburn for your personal, non-commercial use. You may not:

• Copy, modify, or distribute the app
• Reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code
• Use the app for any illegal purpose
• Sell, rent, or sublicense access to the app, or resell credits
• Use automated means to generate story replies at scale, or to extract the catalogue, cover art, or prompts
• Use the app in any way that could damage or impair the service

Credits and Payments

Stories are free to open. Story replies are paid for with credits, and the number of credits a reply costs depends on the prose intensity you have selected at the time. Credit pack pricing and per-reply costs are displayed in the app at the time of purchase.

Credit terms:

• Credits are purchased in packs and are spent as you use the app
• Credits do not expire
• Credits are not transferable between accounts and have no cash value
• Credits are not refundable once spent, except as required by law
• Purchases made through the app are processed by Apple or Google and are subject to their refund policies; purchases made on the web are processed by Stripe

If we offer subscriptions or free trials:

• Terms and durations are displayed at the time of purchase
• Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled through your Apple App Store or Google Play Store account settings
• Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period
• Cancelling during a free trial prevents any charge

We may change pricing with notice. Changes will not affect credits you have already bought or a subscription period already paid for.

User Responsibilities

You agree to:

• Give an accurate date of birth, and to be at least 17 years old
• Keep your device and app updated for security
• Maintain the confidentiality of your account and any linked sign-in
• Use the app in compliance with all applicable laws
• Not attempt to make the app generate content involving minors, real identifiable people, or anything otherwise unlawful

You are responsible for:

• Any activity that occurs through your account
• Maintaining internet connectivity, which story replies require
• The stories and characters you create, and anything you choose to share from the app

Privacy and Data

Your use of Slowburn is subject to our Privacy Policy at https://myslowburn.app/privacy.

You retain ownership of the stories, characters and messages you write in the app. We do not claim ownership of what you put in, and we do not use your session content for marketing.

Disclaimers

Slowburn is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.

We do not guarantee that:

• The app will be error-free or uninterrupted
• Generated story text will be accurate, consistent, or to your taste
• A particular story, character, or intensity setting will remain available
• Notifications will always be delivered on time
• The service will meet your specific requirements

Story text is generated by third-party AI providers (Anthropic and Google). We are not responsible for the availability of those services or for the specific text they produce.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Velocity Apps and its operators shall not be liable for:

• Any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages
• Lost profits, lost credits, or lost data
• Emotional distress or personal injury
• Generated content you found upsetting, offensive, or unsuitable
• Decisions made on the basis of anything the app produced

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability for incidental or consequential damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability shall be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Intellectual Property

All content, features, and functionality of Slowburn, including but not limited to story text we publish, cover and character art, logos, and software, are owned by Velocity Apps and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

User Content

You may choose to provide feedback, suggestions, or ideas about Slowburn. We may use this feedback without any obligation to compensate you.

Stories, characters, messages and notes you create in the app remain yours. You grant us the limited license needed to store that content, send it to our AI providers in order to generate the next passage, and display it back to you. We do not use your personal session content for marketing, and we do not sell it.

If you publish a story or character you created, you additionally grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host it, show it to other readers in the app's community shelves, and let them start their own sessions from it, for as long as it remains published. That covers the story you published — its title, description, art and opening — and never your own sessions or messages, which stay private to you. Nothing you write is published unless you choose to publish it, and publishing does not attach your name or account to it.

Content you create must not depict minors in sexual situations, real identifiable people, or anything otherwise unlawful. We may remove content and suspend accounts that do.

Termination

We may terminate or suspend your access to Slowburn immediately, without prior notice, for:

• Violation of these Terms of Service
• Fraudulent or illegal activity
• Requests by law enforcement or legal obligations

You may terminate your use of Slowburn at any time by deleting your account from the app's Settings menu, which erases your data, and then removing the app.

Upon termination:

• Your right to use the app ends immediately
• Any unspent credits are forfeited and are not refunded, except as required by law
• Your sessions, characters and account data are deleted
• Deleting the app on its own removes the copy on your device but does not delete your account

Updates and Modifications

We may update or modify Slowburn at any time without notice. Updates may include:

• New stories, characters, or features
• Changes to the AI models behind a given intensity setting
• Bug fixes and improvements
• Changes to credit pricing or terms

We may modify these Terms of Service at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by:

• Posting the updated terms in the app
• Updating the "Last Updated" date
• Sending a push notification for significant changes

Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the modified terms.

Third-Party Services

Slowburn integrates with third-party services (AI providers, backend hosting, payment and subscription processors, analytics and crash reporting, and sign-in providers). Your use of these services is subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party services or their policies. They are listed in our Privacy Policy.

Governing Law

These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Dispute Resolution

For disputes related to Slowburn:

• First, contact us at [email protected] to resolve the issue
• If unresolved, disputes will be handled according to the dispute resolution procedures of the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, depending on your platform

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full effect.

Entire Agreement

These Terms of Service, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Velocity Apps regarding use of the app.
